what we are currently summer lovin'

Tank by The Striped Fig

While those who are of back-to-school age are currently lamenting in the feeling that summer is just about over, it feels like it has just begun for us. It's officially the level of hot where you're entirely sure you can and will melt by stepping foot outside for more than fifteen seconds at any given time and our days are packed to the brim with all of the activities that we can possibly fit in. Some days I push this limit even for twenty minutes at the skate park before dinnertime, but isn't that what summer is for?

To sort of counteract all of the kvetching I do about the heat, I thought I would share what we are loving this summer.

TANKS!

We are all about the tanks this summer. True story: I was hesitant for a long, long time to put Ethan in tanks. I'm not sure why. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard "tanks" was a vision of muscle men with crew cuts circa 1994 in Gold's Gym muscle tanks and so I was immediately turned off by the idea. Once I finally caved, it didn't take me long to fall in love with tanks for Ethan. Something about the toddler farmer's tan and little chunky arm muscles just gets me every time. Not to mention how much fun it is to pair these tanks with just about everything, from leggings to neons to skinny jeans to cargo shorts. Ethan's tanks are getting good use this summer.

POPSICLES!

Well, specifically, our new ZOKU Fish Pop Molds. I had gotten super tired of making Ethan popsicles that required a full body work out to remove from the mold so I finally caved and picked up one of these fabulous ZOKU molds that I had been salivating over on Amazon for some time. Forgetting how downright cute these pops are, they're also just plain awesome in general. The popsicles slide right out without having to run them under hot water or work up a sweat in the process and they're the perfect size for tiny hands and little bellies. I always have a tray of popsicles made because they make the perfect snack for hot summer days. The moment we walk into the house to cool down from outside play or adventures, Ethan requests a popsicle to cool him down. Plus, when you make them yourself, it's easy to pack in the good fruits and vegetables to make it a truly healthy snack, too.

Our favorite popsicle "recipes" this summer: spinach and apples, peaches and almond milk, berries (blueberries, strawberries, blackberries), banana and pear, spinach and berries (blueberries, strawberries, blackberries), citrus and melon (oranges, watermelon, honeydew) and bananas with peaches.

SUNSCREEN!

Specifically RAW Elements, which we've been using for a while now except now we're at that point where a daily lathering of sunscreen is imperative. I travel with a bottle in my car in the event I forget our other bottle at home because we just can't be without this stuff this summer. If you're asking what makes it so great, you clearly need to check out the ingredients. It's good for you, and it works and it's so waterproof that you can apply it under the water if you need to. Before you give me the side eye, let me clarify how easy this makes it to reapply on a toddler who no way, no how wants to get out of the water just to reapply his sunscreen.

FROGGLEZ GOGGLES!

I know, I just posted about Frogglez but I couldn't possibly leave these goggles off our list. Ethan is obsessed with his Frogglez goggles and considering we partake in at least one water activity a day, they have been getting a lot of usage. We just love them so.

What are you currently loving this summer?

  1. Kale is so into tank tops this summer too! I don't know why we haven't done homemade popsicles here this summer...maybe something we need to put on our list for August!
