tot school - the letter y - 32 months

I can't believe we're so close to wrapping up the alphabet! It feels like we just were getting started! Letter Y week ran over two weeks because the pregnancy nausea was killing me and I couldn't get my act together. We're finally back on track and moving towards the letter Z! Letter Y week was okay, but Ethan definitely bored with it by the time the second week rolled around.

YARN SORTING

For this one, I cut little pieces of yarn and gave Ethan some tweezers. He got to pick up the yarn and arrange it within the letter Y. He actually really enjoyed the activity -- except by the time I got around to taking photos, the batteries in my camera had died and I forgot to charge them. (Oops!) Still, this was one of the most popular activities of the week!

LETTER Y TRACING

This one is a Twisty Noodle printable. We've been doing the dry-erase tracing for a while -- sometimes Ethan is interested, sometimes he isn't. He did this one once and that was it.

LINE DRAWING WORD ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY

Ethan's been really into these activities. I've done them the past few weeks. For this one, Ethan got to draw a line connecting the spoon to the yogurt, the yellow square to the yellow fish and the...yo-yo to the yo-yo (I wasn't feeling very creative!). He loved this activity throughout the two weeks, too.

LETTER Y PICTURE PUZZLES

These were some pictures of a yak, yolk and yo-yo cut into fours. Ethan got to put the pieces together to create the whole picture. He enjoyed this one more than I thought he would but got a little bored with it during the latter half of the week.

LETTER Y MAGNET BOARD

The magnet board was a little sad this week, but Ethan didn't seem to mind! He learned a new word/animal with Yak, so he got a kick out of that one.

YELLOW DISCOVERY BIN

I filled Ethan's discovery bin with all sorts of yellow things for Y week. I had found some little yellow cars at the dollar store which ended up being his favorite item in the bin, but he had a lot of fun with this one in general during Y week (even if the aforementioned cars somehow escaped tot school early on).

LETTER Y FISHING ACTIVITY

This was also one of the week's popular activities. I had intended to use a yellow ruler and yellow construction paper but, you know, this is the consequence for not checking your supply stash before beginning. Regardless, Ethan had a blast with this activity!

YO-YO CRAFT

We cut out two circles which Ethan painted and glued on a small sliver of an empty toilet paper roll. Once everything was dried, Ethan helped me wrap some yarn around the toilet paper roll to create a fun yo-yo craft!
