We got back into town last night after a long weekend away. We managed to pack a whole lot into such a short span of a few days, but it was so worth it. It's good to be home, but my heart is a little sad about the thought of once again being so far away from so many of our loved ones. Ethan soaked up every minute of being around our closest friends -- his "aunts and uncles" -- and spending time with his cousin. I think he smiled from sun up until bedtime, at least until he tripped on a rural playground in the middle of nowhere and came up with a mouth full of blood. It's scarier when I point out that we were in a town with one fire engine and four paramedics, but they were wonderful and confirmed there was nothing deep enough to stitch and no loose teeth -- just a cut up tongue. In the end, Ethan added "teddy bear from firefighters" and "tour of a real fire engine" to his list of how he spent his weekend getaway and so all was right in the world. (I mean, I'm pretty sure I still have high blood pressure but he's fine, and that's what counts.)
The whole point of our trip up was to celebrate the baby shower of one of my husband's best friends. It's been really cool to watch life just sort of happen since college and I am super excited to meet this little boy when he makes his arrival. We've been talking to Ethan about his new future cousin and he had a blast shopping for a gift with me, but I think he was a little confused when we showed up and there was no baby anywhere in sight. Once I explained that the baby was still in his mommy's belly, he was trying to peek under everyone's shirt -- even his -- to try to find a hiding baby. It was pretty cute.
It really was a wonderful weekend and we truly are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives and here for Ethan. When you come from a small family, it's so easy to sit and daydream about a big family (I'm guilty of this more often than I care to admit), but this weekend just helped me open my eyes to how lucky we truly are to have the friends that we do. Ethan is one lucky boy to be surrounded by so much love.
South Florida welcomed us back with some rain, missed swim lesson and another ER trip for Ethan (don't worry, he's fine!) and I am beyond exhausted and in desperate need of an espresso IV and someone to put away all of my laundry. All that aside, it was a really wonderful weekend away and I'm absentmindedly browsing my Erin Condren planner for a time when we can make another trip up -- this time, hopefully, not requiring the assistance of the paramedics.
I'm so happy to hear that you are surrounded by so much love - I would imagine that you guys would be :). Lovely photos - I especially love the underwater Ethan one!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Monica! <3
DeleteIt sounds like you had an amazing mini-vacation. I love the pic of Ethan under water :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm so glad I found my little underwater camera case. It should come in handy now that he's learning to swim!
Looks like a beautiful time! Great photos. One fire engine and four paramedics, eh? Sounds like where I used to live in Central Florida! I think we had two stoplights.
ReplyDeleteGot to love Central Florida! What city did you used to live in?
DeleteAs for Ethan looking under everyone's shirts for the baby... I am told the story at least once a year about my cousin(then aged 3), when told my mom had a baby in her tummy asked "Auntie Gail, why you eat your baby?"
ReplyDeleteHahaha, that's awesome!
DeleteNice pictures, going on family vacation brings great joy.
