tot school - letter q - 29 months

This was our first week back to tot school in a couple of months and it was so very wonderful to be back. We were on letter Q so I threw in some Christmas activities, too, to hopefully make it a little less boring and redundant -- but Ethan couldn't have cared less. He was just so excited for tot school to be back. Since we're laying low due to Ethan's breathing and not wanting him to be sick during Christmas, we spent an awful lot of time in tot school and it was like we never paused, new room and all.

THIS WEEK IN TOT SCHOOL...

Q CUTTING TRAY

I set this one up with the point being to cut out each letter and picture and turn them into little puzzles. This was vastly beyond Ethan's cutting capabilities since this was his first time really using scissors, but he still had a blast with this one. He spent the majority of time in tot school begging to use this tray and cutting the papers into tiny bits of confetti. At one point my husband came home and observed "oh, you did a lot of cutting today in tot school," as little white flecks of paper covered the floor. I for sure thought he would hate this tray but I was wrong. By the end of the week, there was no paper left to cut!

QUARTERS

I stuck some quarters into a sponge to get them to stand up and the point of this one was to use the tongs to transfer the quarters to the circle. Ethan was stoked about this except for one thing: the tongs. Our beloved Target tongs broke and the months have been filled with trying to fill their void with other tongs. They're all too stiff, to big, too bulky, too small. This tray became an exercise in disaster and frustration and quarters thrown across the room in a frustrated fit. Towards the end of the week, we realized he could handle the tweezers a lot better than our tongs and he enjoyed doing this activity with more success. Of course, he realized the tweezers weren't tongs and that became a fit in itself, but the perks of being two and a half, right?

QUAIL SHAPES

The quail tray came about in a frantic attempt to cover the letter Q. I put some shapes on a quail cut out and Ethan got to match them. This tray was fun once or twice but, of course, that was about it.

QUILTING

This tray had some yarn and some felt and Ethan got to sew together a quilt. He never really has any interest in the stringing activities but was actually pretty into this one, surprisingly.

CHRISTMAS COUNTING

I printed off some counting sheets from Twisty Noodle and put them on a tray with some stickers. Ethan got to sticker each picture as he counted to help him from getting mixed up and counting the same picture twice. He liked this one, though he ignored it for the beginning of the week.

GINGERBREAD FACE MAKING

I stuck a Gingerbread Man cut out in a page protector sheet and let Ethan use a dry erase marker to make faces for the Gingerbread Man. He loved this, though he also loved coloring it in entirely instead of just giving him a face.
