the one with the maxi pad.

I try really hard to not be that mom. You know, the embarassing one who discusses topics that could one day be viewed as completely mortifying when Ethan is a teenager and my sheer existence is already dreadfully humiliating on it's own. I try really, really hard but sometimes I just have to crack because motherhood? Motherhood is an interesting thing.

Tonight my son wore a maxi pad to bed. I'll just put that out there and get to the point.

Now to backpedal (or maybe shed some light on the obvious backstory) a little bit: my son is a huge nighttime wetter. He drinks a lot of water throughout the day and he still has a few sips of water in the middle of the night when he wakes up and needs some help falling back to sleep. He wakes up completely soaked and he's getting awfully tired of being rinsed off and washed off first thing in the morning before he's even fully awake. I've tried just about every imaginable combination of disposable diapers, overnight diapers, cloth diapers, cloth diapers with added hemp stuffing, changing him in the middle of the night (which translates to score! It's 2 a.m. and time to PLAY!) -- these all leave me nothing at all but more reasons to lament about my baby with interrupted sleep (like we needed anymore help in that department) and some very, very wet pajamas.

I contacted a friend of mine and unloaded my frustration. Together we half-joked about the idea of inserting a maxi pad into Ethan's overnight diapers. I sat on the idea all day, trying to imagine my husband's look of horror when he changes Ethan's diaper in the morning and finds a maxi pad inside. Ethan and I made a pit stop at our favorite health food store before returning home for dinner and the idea won. I picked up a package of completely natural maxi pads before heading home.

Tonight I stood there questioning my sanity as I fixed the strangely fluffy, cozy maxi pad into my son's overnight diaper. Here's to smooth sleeping and a dry morning. Oh, and a son who isn't out for my blood by the time he's a teenager.
